You will need:
- Drill and drill bit to match size of eye hook.
- A 30cm length of 10cm PVC Wastepipe; different lengths give variations in sound: Too long and too short give disappointing results).
- 10cm end seal.
- A stand (a metal pole set in concrete, in an old paint tin) or a wooden jungle gym to attach the drum/s to.
- 1cm Dowel sticks to make two beaters or mallets.
- Attach beaters with strong nylon string or 1 of the three cords from the inside of an electrical cord.
- Strong adhesive tape.
- Rubber washers to fit over dowel stick end for a better sound.
- Eye hooks: 4 for each drum.
- Wire.
- Measuring tape.
You can get pieces of 10 cm PVC waste piping offcuts from a builder's yard. Place the 10cm end protector over the end of the pipe. Glue in place.

Have the child/ren decorate the pipe by painting.
Masking tape or gaffer tape the end protector down with enough tape to overlap. Make a hole in the end of each dowel stick and attach them to the jungle gym or stand. Remember to measure the right height for the child.
Glue the washers on to the ends of the dowel sticks to make mallets.
Drill two holes and attach nylon string to the holes on the ends of the mallets. Use two of the eye hooks to attach the mallets to the jungle gym or stand. Make sure the knots are tight.
Drill two holes on the PVC drum close to each other, about 3cm apart. Thread the wire through the two holes. Fix an eye-hook on the other side of the gumpole where you want your drum. Fasten the wire round the pole and through the eye hook to secure the wire.
This is one of a set of wonderful crafts for children and the suggestion to attach the mallets to the jungle gym is so that any noisy fun can be had outside.
