Make one of these colourful crafts for children hand made fans for hot sunny weather, that Indian summer, or just for fashion fun. They are quite simple to make and do have plenty of scope for the person who wants to explore creative designs and colours.

- 12 Wooden medical tongue depressers
- 12 small buttons
- Pipe cleaner
- One and a half metres of narrow lace
- Craft glue
- Bradawl, (small pointed device to make a hole through wood.)
- Glitter
Method:
Cut the tongue depressers into two pieces, across their length. Using the sharp instrument, pierce a small hole through each depresser in the centre of the rounded are towards the end of the depresser. Clean the cut edges as well as the edges where the holes have been made.
Carefully thread the pipe cleaner through the holes in the wooden pieces. Alternately, thread a button between each depresser. Make sure that you have a wooden piece on each end.

Tie neat knots in the two ends of the pipe cleaner. Make sure the wood pieces can still be swivelled.

Fan the assembly flat so that you can measure lengths of lace correctly. Beginning at the outside, (the largest circumference area), cut a piece of lace to fit. Leaving gaps as desired, cut sections of lace to complete the fan. Finish off with strips of thin ribbon and glitter.
