Crafts for children penguin beading
In making this penguin, you will learn the back and forward bead threading technique.
You will need:
45 Black seed beads;
27 White seed beads;
8 Orange seed beads;
2 black bugle (tube) beads;
4 orange bugle (tube) beads;
Old nail clippers to cut the beading wire;
Small pliers to assist pulling the wire through in difficult places;
Wire 0,28” (0.75mm) thick and 1,5 m or 59” long
Method:
The penguin's body:
Row 1) String three black seed beads on the centre of the wire.
Thread the one side of the wire round through the first three beads.
Row 2) Thread one black two white and another black bead onto one side of the wire. Tread the other side of the wire through the same beads. Pull the wires firmly
Row 3) Thread one white seed bead, one black, one orange, one black and one white seed bead onto the one side of the wire. Then thread the other side of the wire in the opposite direction through the bead.
Row 4) Thread one black, one white, one orange, one white and then one black seed bead onto wire. Thread the other side through the same beads in the opposite direction. Pull the wire firmly.
Now you can look at the crafts for children beading pattern and follow along using the back and forth technique.
When you want to secure the wire to finish, loop one wire around and through the last seed bead. Pull firmly. Then clip and carefully with the old nail clippers. Be sure not to clip the loop round the last seed bead.
The penguin’s feet:
Use two pieces of wire. Thread them through some of the side beads on the completed body as shown on the pattern.
On the one wire thread one orange bugle bead, three orange seed beads and then one orange bugle bead. When you want to secure the wire to finish, loop the wire around and through a seed bead on the penguin’s body. Pull firmly. Then clip carefully with the old nail clippers. Be sure not to clip the loop round the last seed bead.
The penguin’s wings:
Use two pieces of wire. Thread them through some of the bottom beads on the completed body as shown on the pattern.
On the one wire thread one black seed bead, then one black bugle bead and then seven black seed beads. When you want to secure the wire to finish, loop the wire around and through the black seed bead you threaded on first close to the penguin body. Pull firmly. Then clip carefully with the old nail clippers. Be sure not to clip the loop round the last seed bead.
Repeat for the other side of the penguin body.
Variation:
In the crafts for children photo at the top of the page in the first row the middle black bead is replaced with a hook; this makes the penguin an easy clip on charm.
