Christmas decorating tips: How to make a star

Ice cream stick star.

In this Christmas decorating tip you will need:

- 4 ice-cream sticks

- Some matching thin string or pipe cleaners,

- Paint brushes, rinsing water and newspaper to protect working surfaces,

- Gold, silver or yellow paint,

- Glitter glue to match your paint,

- Glue.

Method:

Take two ice-cream sticks and glue them together in the middle making a “x” shape. Repeat this step. You now have two 'x's. Then glue the x shapes on top of one another. Make sure the two 'x's are glued at an angle to form an eight pointed star. Glue them together in the middle. Leave the glue to dry. When the glue is dry paint the star with your favourite colours.

To make a loop:

Wrap some thin string round the centre of the star shape. Knot the two ends at the back of the star shape. Before cutting the loose ends too short, you can make a hanging loop by gluing down the loose ends along the back of one of the ice-cream sticks. To make a pipe cleaner tie for the ice-cream stick tree: Use a white or yellow pipe cleaner to match your paint colour. Wrap pipe cleaner around the centre of the star leaving one end longer. Twist the end at the back to secure. The long end can now wrap around the top of the tree.

Add the final touches with some glitter glue.
