Buying your children toys, use the tips for special occasions or just for fun.

When buying children toys, consider the impact on your children as planting seeds in fertile ground. Children need the good parenting skills of their parents in order to grow and develop their talents and abilities.

These days time seems to be filled with schoolwork, watching television and of course, computer games!

Is it possible to invest in your young one's future with a gift to equip them for later?

With carefully selected toys, the little ones can be both entertained and enriched while still having fun.

Play items and games that are three dimensional in nature are known to stimulate the brain more than activities that are two dimensional. Where possible, buy high quality and affordable items that can be used outdoors as these activities are ideal for brain stimulation.

In the case of too many is too much, rotate these where necessary. Store some away and reintroduce them later for a fresh, new interest. Encourage your children to use the ones they have available, it will boost their creativity and encourage them to exhaust playing with the current ones before introducing more from those that were stored.

A good tip is to stock up on a few quality gifts for those surprise birthdays and special occasions. Keep your eyes open for special sales at your local stores or online. There are many boredom busters and other small gifts that never lose their popularity and potential for fun.

These include: Paper dolls to buy or make; pipe cleaner people; glowsticks or bendy glow tubes; origami book and patterns; finger knitting; beads and beading kits; small theme related figurines for livening up a sandpit; board games; card games, and others.

Well chosen ones may spark off a new interest or rekindle and strengthen an old one. On that note, it is a good idea to introduce children to play with items and games that their grandparents made use of.

Include these and others when studying cultures from other lands as well as days gone by. Handmade crafts for children such as some from days of old may be included as a hands on experience for a school project. Perfect for a rainy day or as christmas crafts to be given away or to decorate the tree for that special day.

Active play and the interaction that comes with it are the best way of learning. You can bring out the best by creating an environment where your child’s natural curiosity to explore is allowed to flourish.

Even before birth, you will benefit from these parenting children tips in knowledge, and reward your effort, patience and dedication.

We include here a suggested list of age appropriate children's toys and activities:

Attention pays in the early days.

Children toys birth to 6 months

From birth to six months there are many things for both parents to enjoy in the bonding experience.

Moving towards one, life has just begun.

Children toys 6 to 12 months

Exploration and rapid development take place at this age.

At one and a half I want to laugh.

12 to 18 months

Peek-a-boo, crawling, walking, unpacking cupboards. This age is full of repetition and jokes.

Now I'm approaching two, I need a clue.

18 months to 2 years.

At this age your child will explore anything and everything. Their independence brings with it joy and challenge. Make the most of the time.

Two, three, four...I'm looking for more!

2 to 4 years.

Real busybodies who observe and do what they see their parents do. The challenge is there to do it right and keep up!

Now I'm five I want to come alive.

5 to 6 years

A real little person now. Boys test their strength against things. Girls are aware of pretty things.

Seven and eight, having fun is great.

7 to 8 years

Sport and outings are coming to the fore. Children will begin to participate in group activities.

From nine to twelve, deeper and deeper I delve.

9 to 12 years.

The character and personality are really showing now. Interests, likes and dislikes too.

Now I'm a teen I'm keen to be seen.

13 years and up.

Those interesting teenage years have been entered with the rollercoaster unpredictability. As parents our early groundwork will pay off. Despite what your teen may say they need parental love and guidance just as much as at any other age.
