Children's toys from 13 years and up.

Children with toys might not be how we regard teenagers. But how many of us have scratched our heads in wonder, both at how we can keep our teens occupied and also how the head of a teenager works? Here are some tips and suggestions to spark the creative juices. Remember this: we were all once teenagers and so we do have some experience with the territory.

Books: Specific interests does not mean restricting titles to only those topics. A broad general knowledge is preferable. Record books, books on fashion through the ages for girls, the history and development of weapons for boys. Adventure stories are great, be sure to choose spiritually upbuilding ones. Choose with care. Specific craft and interest books will do well. Remember the magazine subscriptions. Motivational books promoting inner beauty and modesty for girls, and courage and character for boys. At this stage a personal journal and planner is very important.

Bedroom decorating and decorations: Posters of sporting and other heroes are the rage at this age. Further than that is developing the ability to arrange and organise.

Planners: A wardrobe planner is a great gift for girls. Incorporate colour coding, make-up and beauty tips. Jewellery and make-up organiser: What teenage girl can do without this?

Hobby organiser: What teenage boy can do without this? Personalised towel, sunscreen and hairstyling gel: Where do I fit with my peers will be a popular question at this age. These items may help to ease the anxiety.

Models: Kits such as aircraft, tanks, ships, cars and motorcycles. Teens of this age are likely to be adept at making their own children's toys.

Movie tickets, dvds:

Dvd player, music player, memory stick, card readers: In this electronic age these are almost neccessities and no longer luxuries. When choosing, approving and buying electronic games it is worth considering physically interactive games which involve physical movement on the part of the player/s. These also provide a platform where the whole family can be involved and take part.

Programmes that assist with studies and writing exams: For computers or other media. Type assist, speed reading, second language.

Birthday calendars: For keeping track of all the friends on that oh so special day each year.

Noteboards: For special notes and birthday cards. White boards with magnets serve the purpose well.

Camera and camera bag: Records of friends and events can be kept in a scrapbook.
